Finding Enough Inner Strength to Support Others.

What I am about to share with you really blew my mind. It has to do with a simple story about two friends who were walking along the road dejected and feeling hopeless. They were saddened by the fact that their expectations had not been as they had hoped it would be.

As they were discussing the events preceding their departure from their city, looking moody and despondent, suddenly a stranger joined them. The stranger listened with rapt attention ;after which He then asked why they were so unhappy. They took time to relate what had happened in the most sincere manner as best as they could.

Special.

Even though they did not know who this person was, they took time to express how they felt. Not only did they take time to explain why they were demoralised, they even offered to provide a bed and a meal. Can you beat that? Who would be going through such great loss and still care to shelter and provide for another? These men could be classed as a people who have had  a special kind of encounter.

I believe that the seed which had been sown in them; gave them that capacity to still entertain a stranger when they were at their lowest ebb. Just as they settled down to eat, the stranger blessed the meal and suddenly something extraordinary happened. The  eyes of the two men were suddenly opened subsequently, the person they thought was a stranger turned out to be their friend whom they thought had died. Joy was restored. Confidence was established!

The Right Perspective.

This story teaches us not to be too absorbed by our problems so that our view of life will not be hazy  or blinded. This story has been adapted from the record of Jesus’ encounter with two disciples who were on their way to Emmaus. (Luke 24:13-35)

No matter what we may be going through, may God enable us to have the right perspective, sincerity of heart to express what is bogging us in order for God to open our eyes to see the possibilities before us. These two men were open, sincere and hospitable. These virtues are what Jesus expected of them. When faced with any challenge find someone to share your problem with, however , be discerning.

Do you know someone who has had to overcome personal adversity in their own life to provide love and support for others?
