It is often stated that when the value of a thing is not known, abuse is inevitable. This statement is very profound in that it is reflected in many ways around us. How would a one year old handle a piece of cut diamond worth millions? Roll it on the floor, dribble over it with his saliva and probably throw it to one corner of the living room or play pen within few minutes. What would a peasant do if he found the latest I pad in a jungle? He would probably use it as a seat, sit on it for a short while and probably abandon it there; or even throw it into his fire for cooking in the field.
Such is what we get out of life when we devalue ourselves. We subject ourselves to abuse and allow people trample over us. We are of great value because God has made us unique. Even sets of identical twins, still possess some unique qualities. God has placed in you special gifts and talents. Take time to make a list of these gifts. What do people compliment you for? What do you do easily that others struggle with? What do you enjoy doing? All these and many more will make you realise that you are unique and of immense value. Are you very kind, neat, organised, prompt, dedicated, and reliable? There is greatness and great wealth in you. There are things of beauty in you.
Observing some people do and listening to how they put themselves down made me write this. I know that there are people out there who brag and make others feel small, but I want to encourage you not to focus on them but to focus on God and what He has packaged in you for excellence. Some of you have great potentials but hide yourselves or slave after individuals who keep talking you down making you feel very small. Why subject yourselves to this abuse when you could use these gifts to change your world and fulfil purpose?
This also brings me to my sisters who may have been let down, abandoned by a man; raise your head up high, do not throw yourself at everyman that crosses your way Out there is a man who will love and respect the precious gifts and qualities in you. You may say, I do not have a pretty face or right figure, not this, not every man out there is looking for outward looks. I have come across men who value intelligent, cultured women above a pretty face. I do not condemn anyone with a pretty face but I want to encourage those who self condemn as a result of this. You have a lot of good qualities in you. Believe in yourself and never discount yourself for anyone. You are worth more than rubies ladies says the Bible-
“10 [b]A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies. Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value.”Proverbs 31:10-11
Do you notice that character was first mentioned here and if you continue to read proverbs 31, you will be encouraged that there are priceless capacities in you.
Above all God gave the life of His son Jesus for us all and you are included. So beloved, value yourself, not in pride but because that is the reality.
